Victorian Soccer Fixtures and Results 1886

1886 seems another growth year but not all it is rosy. Richmond Cricket Ground is no longer available to the game and while Richmond is mentioned, it seems that it takes little part in the competitions. Perhaps the rise of Richmond FC (Victorian Rules) explains both. Carlton emerges as a strong team and the first soccer match is played on Carlton Cricket Ground.

"A novelty was introduced by the supporters of the British Association game of football who mustered teams of four men each of the Prahran, South Melbourne, Richmond, and Carlton clubs to play in heats of 10 minutes each for a six guinea trophy.
